Wireless Security,
Frequently Asked Questions

Below we've outlined some of the most common questions asked in relation to our efforts to create a wireless security guide.

Why wireless router security?
Home wireless networks are growing at an unbelieveable rate.

As stated on the STOPWirelessHackers home page, during a wireless security audit in Rochester, New York, we found 400 Wireless Access Points in a 2.5 square mile area (4.0 square/km), over 60% of the wireless networks are unsecured! Any who wanted to could access those networks from around the corner.

What is Usability Matrix Corporation?

We are a web usability consulting firm. What the heck is web usability consulting?!?!

"Usability really just means making sure that something works well: that a person of average (or even below average) ability and experience can use the thing - whether it's a web site, remote control, or revolving door - for its intended purpose without getting hopelessly frustrated."

(Krug, Don't make me Think)

We make web sites usable and easy to use. For more information, please visit the Usability Matrix web site.

Is it possible to get 100% protection of my wireless network?

It is impossible to guarantee absolute wireless protection. There are no companies or products that can provide you with a guarantee of 100% protection of your wireless router or wireless network. In today's world the wireless hacker and their tool sets are always evolving. We believe that we offer the one of the best solutions. Our wireless router security guide is thoroughly researched and doesn't require you to install any separate software applications.

Another issue associated with wireless routers is what makes them such an asset, they are wireless. Because they produce a radio signal that radiates out in all directions from your house. That is what makes wireless networks both a virtue and a vice, at the same time.

Isn't wireless router security information and other resources already available on the internet?

Absolutely! We aren't going to hid the fact that you can find many free suggestions on the web for wireless security. Some of these resources are very good. Yet, in many cases, they offer the most basic solution to an evolving problem.

The other issue, do you have several hours of your time to do all the research? We have done hundreds of hours of research on the web, through publication and books, and run all the recommendations by the experts. That is the value of our product
.

Why are you writing a wireless router security guide?

We decided after conducting our own wireless network audit, in Rochester, New York, that people need to know the inherent privacy dangers of a wireless network.

As stated before, you can find a good deal of free information on wireless security. We want to provide you with a complete, easy to use, expert reviewed guide, on wireless router security.

You DON'T need to have a degree in computer science to understand what we are saying.

Who are your wireless internet security experts?
Are they real people?

I assure you that the experts we utilized are indeed real world internet security experts. Because of their positions and contractual obligations, naming them conflicts with their employer's non-compete clause.

What I can say is that one person works for a major corporation somewhere in Canada. The individual travels all over North America conducting internet security audits. Their specialty is know as ethical hacking. They many of the resources a hacker uses, attempts to get into a secure system (with consent), and then reports on the findings to the client.

The other person works for a high end research firm, doing government work, and travels all over the world speaking and consulting on internet security.

I am very thankful of their support. Hopefully we're successful in our endeavors.
